What is atomic number?

The number of protons in an atom

What do all atoms of the same element share?

The same number of protons

In a normal atom, electrons vs protons?

Number of electrons = number of protons

What is mass number?

Number of protons + number of neutrons

What are isotopes?

Atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons

What's the same in different isotopes?

Same atomic (proton) number

What differs between isotopes?

Different mass numbers (different neutrons)

Formula: number of neutrons

neutrons=mass numberatomic number\text{neutrons} = \text{mass number} - \text{atomic number}

What is ionisation?

Process where atoms lose or gain electrons

What are ions?

Atoms that have lost or gained electrons

When are ions positively charged?

When they have lost electrons

When are ions negatively charged?

When they have gained electrons
