Ecological Issues
Textile production and care can harm the environment:
- Textile Production
- Synthetic textiles (e.g., polyester) are made from fossil fuels.
- Pesticides used on cotton crops cause water pollution.
- Chemicals in dyes (e.g., denim) contaminate water supplies.
- Textile Care
- Washing/drying clothes too often uses energy and shortens their lifespan.
- Cleaning products like detergents and bleach harm the environment.
- Textile Use
- Discarded textiles end up in landfills as synthetic fibres are non-biodegradable.
