Show

What is a set?

A collection of things (called elements)

What does ABA ∪ B represent?

Union: all elements in either AA, BB, or both

What does ABA ∩ B represent?

Intersection: only elements in both AA and BB

What does AA' represent?

Complement: everything NOT in set AA

Purpose of Venn diagrams in set theory

Visual tool showing sets as circles; overlaps show intersections

What do overlapping parts in Venn diagrams show?

Intersection: elements common to both sets

How to think of union (AB)(A ∪ B)?

AA or BB

How to think of intersection (AB)(A ∩ B)?

AA and BB

How do sets help with probability problems?

Organise information and make calculations easier

What does complement AA' exclude?

Everything in set AA
