• Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh is a fiddle player, singer, and composer from Donegal. She is known for her unique Donegal fiddle style and for promoting traditional Irish music worldwide.
• In 1987, she left her job as a primary school teacher to form the legendary Irish traditional band Altan with her husband, Frankie Kennedy.
• Altan became one of the most famous Irish folk groups. In 1994, they made history as the first Irish traditional music band to be signed to a major record label (Virgin Records).

• Mairéad is dedicated to preserving Irish music and culture. She set up Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí (Donegal Fiddlers' Association) to protect the unique Donegal fiddle style.
• She has performed all over the world with Altan and has collaborated with top Irish musicians, including Enya and The Chieftains.

• In recent years, she has formed String Sisters and SíFiddlers, groups that celebrate female fiddle players internationally. She also presents radio and TV programmes about Irish music, ensuring that Irish traditional music continues to inspire future generations.
