Note Stems (Junior Cert Music): Revision Notes
📚 Revision Notes
Note Stems
What Are Note Stems?
- Apart from the semibreve, all note values have a stem attached to the note head.
- These stems can point upwards or downwards, depending on the note's position on the stave.
Why Do Stems Point Up or Down?
When notes are placed on the stave, their stem direction follows a rule:
- Notes above the middle line of the stave have a downward stem attached to the left side of the note head.
- Notes below the middle line have an upward stem attached to the right side of the note head.
- Notes on the middle line can have stems going either up or down.
