Rests

• Rests are silences in music.
• Each note value has a matching rest, which tells musicians when not to play.
• Rests create space in music and help shape phrases. They can also be used for contrast or emphasis.
• They can add drama and tension to music pieces.

Dotted Rests

• A dot placed after a note value makes the note longer.
• A dot after a rest has the same effect.
• A dotted rest lasts for one and a half times the original rest's value. The dot adds half the rest's value to its duration.
