Rests (Junior Cert Music): Revision Notes
📚 Revision Notes
Rests
- Rests are silences in music.
- Each note value has a matching rest, which tells musicians when not to play.
- Rests create space in music and help shape phrases. They can also be used for contrast or emphasis.
- They can add drama and tension to music pieces.
Dotted Rests
- A dot placed after a note value makes the note longer.
- A dot after a rest has the same effect.
- A dotted rest lasts for one and a half times the original rest's value. The dot adds half the rest's value to its duration.
