Any factor that may change in an experiment

Factor you deliberately change or control

What you measure to see the effect of changes

Factors kept exactly the same across all parts of experiment

Only change ONE variable at a time

How consistent results are when experiment is repeated

How close measured values are to the true/actual value

How close repeated measurements are to each other

Unpredictable mistakes that occur by chance, no pattern

Consistent mistakes affecting all measurements the same way

Take multiple measurements and calculate an average

Calibrate equipment properly before use

Standard comparison identical to experiment except it lacks the treatment being tested

Neither participants nor researchers know who gets real treatment
