Practise the cards

10 cards from this deck

Show

Natural numbers (N)

{1, 2, 3, 4, ...} - counting numbers

Whole numbers (N₀)

{0, 1, 2, 3, 4, ...} - natural numbers + zero

Integers (Z)

{..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...} - all whole numbers

Rational number

Number as ab\frac{a}{b}, aa, bb integers, b≠0b \neq 0

Irrational number

Cannot be written as fraction; decimal doesn't terminate/repeat

Surd

nthn^{th} root that can't simplify to rational (e.g., 2\sqrt{2})

Binomial

Algebraic expression with exactly two terms

Sum of two cubes: x3+y3x^3 + y^3

(x+y)(x2−xy+y2)(x + y)(x^2 - xy + y^2)

Difference of two cubes: x3−y3x^3 - y^3

(x−y)(x2+xy+y2)(x - y)(x^2 + xy + y^2)

Cancelling in algebraic fractions

Only factors cancel, never individual terms
