A way of comparing quantities or amounts

$\frac{2}{9}$ or $\frac{9}{2}$ depending on direction

Divide all parts by their HCF

No number except 1 divides evenly into all parts

Multiply by power of 10 to eliminate decimals

Convert to the same unit (smaller unit)

Parts in direct proportion, same scale factor for all

Ratio comparing a part to the total amount

Add up all the parts in the ratio

Divide total by number of parts to find one part
