Angle measured upward from horizontal line

Angle measured downward from horizontal line

Horizontal line, never from vertical

They are equal to each other

Form alternate angles between parallel horizontal lines

$\tan \theta = \frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{adjacent}}$

When you have/need opposite and adjacent sides

$\sin \theta = \frac{\text{opposite}}{\text{hypotenuse}}$
