Longest side, opposite the right angle

Side opposite to angle $\theta$

Side next to $\theta$, not the hypotenuse

$\sin \theta = \frac{o}{h}$ (opposite/hypotenuse)

$\cos \theta = \frac{a}{h}$ (adjacent/hypotenuse)

$\tan \theta = \frac{o}{a}$ (opposite/adjacent)
