What is concentration?

Amount of reactant particles in a given volume

Effect of increasing concentration on reaction rate

Increases the rate of reaction

Why does higher concentration increase reaction rate?

More particles → more collisions → more successful reactions

What happens to M-B curve shape at higher concentration?

Remains the same (most probable energy unchanged)

What happens to M-B curve peak at higher concentration?

Higher (more molecules) but at same energy level

What happens to M-B curve area at higher concentration?

Increases (represents larger number of molecules)

How significant is concentration effect vs temperature effect?

Less significant than temperature

Effect of increasing pressure on gaseous reactions

Increases rate (like increasing concentration)

How does pressure affect gas particle concentration?

Compresses particles into smaller volume

Common mechanism for concentration & pressure effects

More particles in same space → more collisions
