Show

4 marine transport processes

Traction, saltation, suspension, solution

Traction process

Rolling/pushing large sediment along seabed (high energy)

Saltation process

Bouncing/jumping of stones along seabed

Suspension process

Fine particles carried within moving water

Solution transport

Dissolved minerals transported invisibly in water

Longshore drift pattern

Zigzag movement along coast (swash up, backwash down)

When marine deposition occurs

When waves have low energy or abundant sediment supply

Aeolian processes

Wind entrainment, transport & deposition of sediment

Sub-aerial weathering

Breaks down rocks in situ, weakening them

Carbonation weathering

CO2 in rainwater creates carbonic acid, dissolves rock
