Communication system

Structured setup to transfer information from one point to another

Components in a communication system

Nine components

Input transducer function

Converts input information into an electrical signal

Modulator function

Modifies signal for transmission; superimposes onto carrier wave

Transmission amplifier function

Increases amplitude so signal travels further and resists noise

Attenuation

Loss of signal strength during transmission

Transmitter function

Converts electrical signal to form suitable for transmission

Receiver function

Detects transmitted signal & converts to electrical form

Demodulator function

Extracts original information signal from carrier wave

Output transducer function

Converts signal back to its original format
