Positive symptoms: Symptoms that involve additional experiences that people don't normally have Hallucinations: When an individual perceives things around them that aren't real

• Hallucinations can involve any of the 5 senses Delusions: When an individual firmly holds on to irrational beliefs about the world, despite evidence contradicting them

Negative symptoms: Symptoms that involve the absence of experiences people normally have

• Avolition: When an individual feels a persistent lack of motivation or energy to complete everyday tasks
• Speech poverty: When an individual uses minimal speech and shows a lack of spontaneous, unprompted speech
