Show

Three types of average

Mean, median, and mode

What does range show?

How spread out the data is

Definition of mean

Add all values and divide by number of values

Formula for mean

Mean=SumNumber of values\text{Mean} = \frac{\text{Sum}}{\text{Number of values}}

Formula to find sum from mean

Sum=Mean×Number of values\text{Sum} = \text{Mean} \times \text{Number of values}

Definition of median

Middle value when arranged in order

Median with two middle values

Add them and divide by 2

Why use median with outliers?

Not affected by extreme values

Definition of mode

Value that appears most often

Can data have more than one mode?

Yes, if values appear equally often

When is there no mode?

All values appear same number of times

Formula for range

Range=LargestSmallest\text{Range} = \text{Largest} - \text{Smallest}

First step before finding median

Put values in order from smallest to largest

When to round the mean?

Only when the question asks you to

Finding missing value using mean

Use Sum=Mean×Number\text{Sum} = \text{Mean} \times \text{Number}
