CBA 2 - Presentation (Junior Cert Business Studies): Revision Notes
CBA 2 - Presentation
What is CBA 2?
CBA 2 is an individual assessment where you investigate and deliver a three-minute presentation on a business-related topic. This topic can connect to what you've studied in class or focus on a personal or local issue that relates to the business environment.
Important: You cannot present on your Business in Action Classroom-Based Assessment topic.
The three areas of activity
Your CBA 2 must demonstrate skills in three key areas:
The Three Essential Skills:
- Investigating - Researching and exploring your chosen topic
- Making informed judgements - Analysing information and forming opinions
- Communicating - Presenting your findings effectively
Step-by-step process
Step 1: Investigating - Choose and research your topic
Choose a topic that interests you. Your options include:
- Content directly related to your Junior Cycle Business Studies coursework
- A personal or local issue connected to the business environment
Potential topic ideas:
- Field visit to a local enterprise
- Investigation of a business-related news story
- Leaders in the Irish business field
- Investigation of an organisation's impact on a community
- Consumerism trends
- Investigation of a current economic issue
- Careers in business
Research thoroughly by gathering information from both primary and secondary sources. This might involve organising meetings, conducting interviews, or carrying out online research. Keep detailed records of all your sources.
Remember that your presentation is only three minutes long, so focus on one specific aspect of your topic that can be covered within this time limit.
Step 2: Reflecting on learning - Evaluate your findings
Consider how your investigation has expanded your understanding of the business environment. Think about the personal, local, social, or environmental aspects of your topic.
Connect your findings to the knowledge you've gained from studying Junior Cycle Business Studies. Combine this with your existing understanding and personal viewpoints to create a comprehensive perspective.
Examine your topic from multiple angles and consider different opinions and viewpoints that relate to it.
Step 3: Personal reflexion - Consider your learning journey
Ask yourself these important questions:
- What were my thoughts about this topic before I started investigating?
- How do I view this topic now after my research?
- Has my behaviour or attitude changed after learning more about this topic?
Provide clear justifications for your answers, explaining how and why your perspective may have evolved.
Step 4: Communicating - Deliver your presentation
Structure your three-minute presentation to include:
- Brief overview of your business-related topic
- Explanation of why this topic interests you
- Summary of what you've learned about the business environment through your investigation
- Reflexion on how your worldview has changed through this research
- Your personal opinion on the business-related topic
- Demonstration of your communication skills
Enhance your presentation with visual aids such as PowerPoint slides, Prezi presentations, or physical materials like posters. Include relevant images, graphs, or even products/packaging that support your points.
Practice extensively - rehearse your presentation multiple times. Work with classmates to give each other feedback and ask questions. Record yourself presenting and review the recording to identify areas for improvement.
