What does an energy level diagram show?

Enthalpy changes during a chemical reaction

What is enthalpy change (ΔH\Delta H)?

Energy difference between reactants and products

ΔH\Delta H sign: endothermic reaction

Positive

ΔH\Delta H sign: exothermic reaction

Negative

What is activation energy (EaE_a)?

Minimum energy required to start a reaction

EaE_a location on energy diagram

Peak between reactants and products

Products in exothermic reaction

At lower energy level than reactants

Products in endothermic reaction

At higher energy level than reactants

Catalyst effect on EaE_a

Lowers it

Catalyst effect on ΔH\Delta H

Does not change it
