Two identical copies of DNA from one original molecule

During interphase, before cell division

Each new DNA has one original strand and one new strand

Unwinds the double helix and breaks hydrogen bonds between bases

Builds new DNA strands by adding nucleotides to the $3'$ end

Joins Okazaki fragments together on the lagging strand

Synthesised continuously in one long chain

Synthesised discontinuously in short fragments (Okazaki)

Short DNA segments ($100$-$150$ nucleotides) on lagging strand

Adenine pairs with thymine; guanine pairs with cytosine
