What are mutually exclusive events?

Events that cannot happen at the same time.

Example of mutually exclusive events with dice?

Rolling a 3 and a 5 cannot happen together.

How to write probability of rolling a 6?

P(6) = 1/6 for a standard dice.

What is the sum of probabilities for exhaustive events?

They must add up to 1.

Formula for mutually exclusive events?

P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B).

Calculate P(red or yellow) if P(red)=0.4, P(yellow)=0.4?

P(red or yellow) = 0.4 + 0.4 - P(red and yellow)

What is the missing probability if P(Red)=0.1, P(Green)=0.25, P(Yellow)=0.3?

P(Other) = 0.35 (total must equal 1).

Calculate P(green or yellow) if P(green)=0.25, P(yellow)=0.3?

P(green or yellow) = 0.25 + 0.3 = 0.55.

What is the complement rule in probability?

P(not A) = 1 - P(A).

Why can't you add probabilities of non-mutually exclusive events?

They can occur together, so use different methods.
