Making a Complaint
If you are unhappy with goods or services, follow these steps:
- Return with a receipt:
- Go back to the shop/service and bring your receipt.
- Speak to a manager:
- Politely explain the problem and what you expect (e.g. refund or repair).
- Put the complaint in writing:
- If unresolved, write a letter or email of complaint. Include:
- Your name, address, and date.
- Details of the product or service (brand, model, price).
- Clear explanation of the issue and steps already taken.
- Copies of the receipt/guarantee (keep originals safe).
- Seek further advice:
- Contact consumer protection organisations if needed.
- Small claims procedure:
- For disputes involving less than €2,000, use the small claims court for quick, low-cost resolution.
Small Claims Procedure
- Used for disputes over goods/services costing less than €2,000.
- Costs €25 to apply, and you don't need a solicitor.
