Expressing as product of two linear expressions in brackets

$ax^2 + bx + c = 0$

$a eq 0$

$b$ (coefficient of $x$)

$(x quad)(x quad) = 0$

Rearrange into standard form $ax^2 + bx + c = 0$

Expand the brackets back out

Set each bracket equal to zero

E.g., $(2x quad)(x quad)$ or $(3x quad)(x quad)$

Both signs in brackets are the same

Signs in brackets are different (one +, one -)

More likely to be fractional
