Rearrange until you have $x = \text{number}$

Whatever operation on one side, do to other side to keep balanced

$x$-terms on one side, numbers on the other side

Combine like terms

Divide both sides by the coefficient of $x$

Multiply them out first

Get rid of fractions by multiplying every term by denominator(s)

Multiply every term in equation by 4

Multiply by both denominators

$Ax = B$ form

Take square root of both sides: $x = \pm 5$

Both positive and negative give same result when squared

Substitute it back into both sides of original equation

Fractions first, then brackets
