Guidelines for Buying and Storing Milk
Buying Milk
- Choose a Hygienic Shop: Ensure the shop is clean and follows food safety standards.
- Check Use-by Dates: Look for the freshest milk, often placed behind older stock on the shelf.
- Buy in Small Quantities: Purchase only what you need to avoid waste.
- Inspect Seals: Ensure the carton or bottle is properly sealed to ensure freshness.
- Buy Towards the End of Shopping: Keep milk cold by buying it last during your shopping trip.
Storing Milk
- Store Upright: Place milk upright in the fridge door to avoid spills.
- Keep at 4°C: Store milk at 4°C to prevent it from spoiling quickly.
- Rotate Stock: Use milk by its use-by date, starting with the oldest first.
- Avoid Mixing Expiry Dates: Don't mix milk with different expiration dates, as they'll spoil around the same time.
- Cover and Protect from Odours: Keep milk covered and away from strong-smelling foods like onions, which can affect the taste.
