Yoghurt (Junior Cert Home Economics): Revision Notes
📚 Revision Notes
Buying and Storing Yoghurt
Buying Yoghurt
- Choose a Clean Store: Buy yoghurt from a hygienic shop to ensure safety.
- Check Use-by Dates: Look for the freshest yoghurt by checking dates; fresher products are often behind older ones on the shelf.
- Buy Only What You Need: Purchase in quantities you'll use soon to avoid waste.
- Check Seals: Ensure the yoghurt containers are properly sealed to keep them fresh.
- Buy Last: Pick up yoghurt towards the end of your shopping trip to keep it cool.
Storing Yoghurt
- Keep Upright: Store yoghurt upright in the fridge door to prevent spills.
- Store at 4°C: Keep yoghurt at 4°C to keep it fresh for longer.
- Rotate Stock: Use the oldest yoghurt first to avoid waste. Check the use-by dates and consume yoghurt before it expires.
- Avoid Strong Smells: Yoghurt should be kept away from strong-smelling foods, like onions, as it can absorb odours and change flavour.
