What is a line segment?

Portion of a line between two specific endpoints

What is the midpoint?

Point exactly halfway between two endpoints

How to find midpoint x-coordinate?

Add x-coordinates of endpoints, divide by 2

How to find midpoint y-coordinate?

Add y-coordinates of endpoints, divide by 2

Midpoint formula

M=(x1+x22,y1+y22)M = \left(\frac{x_1+x_2}{2}, \frac{y_1+y_2}{2}\right)

What does a ratio tell you on a line segment?

How far along the segment a point is positioned

If C divides AB in ratio 4:34:3, how many parts from A to C?

4 parts

Method for using ratios (3 steps)

Calculate differences, apply ratio, add to starting coordinates

Midpoint as special ratio case

Ratio is 1:11:1

What do ratios describe?

Proportional relationships
