Quick addition/subtraction using number sense & place value

Split numbers into tens and units, add easier parts first

Count up from the smaller number to find the difference

Systematic way to add/subtract using place value columns

Units column (right side), then work left

When column total $\geq 10$, write units digit, carry tens to next

When top digit is smaller than bottom digit

Borrowing 10 from the next column to the left

Work in pence to avoid decimal numbers

Eliminates decimals, makes calculations easier
