Very large or very small numbers

Multiply the number parts separately

Add the powers

$a^m \times a^n = a^{(m+n)}$

Divide the number parts

Subtract the powers

$a^m \div a^n = a^{(m-n)}$

Convert to ordinary form, calculate, convert back

$1 \leq \text{first number} < 10$

Cannot directly add/subtract numbers with different powers of 10
