10 cards from this deck

Show

Association between variables

When two variables are related or connected

Two-way frequency table

Summarises data from two categorical variables together

Explanatory variable (EV)

Variable that might explain or influence the other

Response variable (RV)

Variable influenced by the explanatory variable

Table layout: RV and EV placement

RV labels rows, EV labels columns

Calculating column percentages

Cell frequency ÷ column sum × 100

Evidence of association

Row percentages differ substantially between columns

Similar percentages indicate

No association between the variables

Segmented bar chart

Visual of percentaged two-way table, bars reach 100%

Why use percentages?

Allows fair comparison when group sizes differ
