What are coordinates?

Pairs of numbers that show the exact position of a point on a grid

What is the origin?

Point where axes cross, with coordinates (0,0)(0, 0)

What is the x-axis?

Horizontal line running left to right

What is the y-axis?

Vertical line running up and down

Format for writing coordinates

In brackets as a pair: (x,y)(x, y)

First number xx in (x,y)(x, y)

Horizontal position - left or right from origin

Second number yy in (x,y)(x, y)

Vertical position - up or down from origin

Negative xx values

Points to the left of the origin

Negative yy values

Points below the origin

What is the midpoint formula?

(x1+x22,y1+y22)\left(\frac{x_1 + x_2}{2}, \frac{y_1 + y_2}{2}\right)
