Constant velocity definition

Equal distances in equal time intervals along a straight line

Velocity vs speed: key difference

Velocity is vector (has direction); speed is scalar

Ticker timer operating frequency

50 Hz (50 dots per second)

Time formula from ticker tape (nn spaces)

t=n50t = \frac{n}{50} where nn is number of spaces

Velocity formula (Method A: ticker tape)

v=stv = \frac{s}{t} where ss is distance, tt is time

Why incline the runway slightly?

To compensate for/overcome friction

Evidence of constant velocity on ticker tape

Evenly spaced dots throughout motion

Count dots or spaces on ticker tape?

Count spaces between dots, not the dots themselves

Main advantage of air track method

Virtually eliminates friction (frictionless motion)

Required alignment of air track

Perfectly horizontal (level), checked with spirit level

Function of light gate in Method B

Measures transit time of card/rider passing through

Velocity formula (Method B: air track)

v=ltv = \frac{l}{t} where ll is card length, tt is time

How to avoid parallax error?

Keep eye directly above measurement point

Time interval between ticker timer dots

1/50th of a second (0.02 s)

How to verify constant velocity achieved?

Multiple measurements show consistent velocity readings
