Compass and straightedge (ruler)

Three main types

Perpendicular through point on line

Line through point P on line AB at 90°90° to AB

Perpendicular from point not on line

Perpendicular from P to line AB (P is off the line)

Perpendicular bisector definition

Cuts line segment in half at right angle

Compass width during construction

Keep constant (same width throughout)

Compass opening for perpendicular bisector
